KT Succeeds in Connecting 5G Network, Device and Service for the First Time in the World

KT has announced the success of connecting Samsung Electronics' 5G device to KT's 5G trial network based on "PyeongChang 5G specifications" in the opening and closing ceremony stadium and main stadiums of PyeongChang Winter Olympics, on 27th.

KT has also succeeded in "5G trial service demonstration" by transmitting large video clips through Samsung Electronics' 5G terminal through KT's 5G trial network based on "PyeongChang 5G specifications". This is the first time that KT has succeeded in connecting an actual device and not a testing device to 5G network service.

A tablet PC was used for the 5G trial service demonstration, which has the normal functions of an existing tablet and also has the functions to connect with ultra-high speed wireless networks. And the tablet also has Multi-RAT Interworking for 5G-4G (LTE) so that users may shift from 4G to 5G enjoying ultra-high speed data service.

In order to succeed in connecting 5G device to the 5G network built in PyeongChang, KT together with Samsung Electronics have been testing in 5G R&D center in Umyeon-dong and PyeongChang 5G center for months and KT is assured that it has reached the last stage technically for the commercialization of 5G as KT has succeeded in 5G network, device and service.

KT's network group head, Oh Sung-Mok said, "Korea’s development of ICT and investments made it possible for KT to introduce 5G network in 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics where the whole world will be watching. KT will prepare to provide a stable world-class internet service for the Olympics and also prepare to introduce a variety of 5G services that will surprise the word for the remaining period of time until the Olympics."
