Objectives

Engage with relevant industry partners to develop implementation plans for the 5G IPR recommendations outlined in the NGMN 5G White Paper.

 

  • Aim to improve 5G Standard Essential Patent (SEP) declarations.
  • Establish independent 5G SEP assessments.
  • Explore and establish an appropriate 5G patent pool framework.
  • Address the emerging need for software licensing in the mobile industry and, in particular, as regards Open Source.
  • Work based on the 5G IPR principles in NGMN White Paper:

    • In general support from operators. contributors and advisors;
    • No duplication of work in other foras (e.g. ETSI, GSMA, ITU);
    • Learn from experience in vertical sectors;
    • Reach out to other non-3GPP SDOs,

 

 

5G Spectrum

Objectives

Providing continuous contributions to international fora and groups regarding NGMN spectrum requirements, in order to ensure the allocation of sufficient spectrum for future 5G services.

 

  • Development and delivery of an NGMN spectrum perspective for WRC-15. Co-ordinate with GSMA on WRC-15 agenda item for WRC-19 and, if aligned and needed, also on WRC-15 bands.
  • Leading up to WRC-19, evaluations and studies on new frequency ranges and bands for 5G (including spectrum above 6 GHz) will be carried out and requirements based on this activity will be delivered in an NGMN 5G Spectrum White Paper.
  • Project will build on the NGMN 5G White paper and work closely together with the other NGMN 5G projects and programmes (BPG, Requirements & Architecture, IPR). Input on business relevant aspects will be received from BPG.

 

 

Vertical Industries (V2X)

Connected & autonomous vehicles will provide huge social, industrial and economic benefits. A collaborative approach across industries is required to reap the many benefits these technologies offer. V2X Brings New Opportunities for Operators with transformation of the roles of existing players and opportunities for new entrants, especially telcos.

 

Objectives

  • Drive adoption and success of V2X.
  • Harmonize and publicize operators view on LTE-based V2X and DSRC
  • Reduce the time-to-market of LTE-based V2X
  • Cooperation with automotive industry to convey information on LTE-based V2X and DSRC, to create common understanding / share learnings, and to promote NGMN V2X view
  • Prepare and drive the 5G standardization for V2X applications (Automotive Vertical)
